Professional models from Nova Models, Actors and Talent strutted in the name of freedom in front of an audience including TV3’s Carol Hirschfeld and Kelly Swanson Roe.
About 150 people attended Fashion for Freedom at Epsom Girls’ Grammar School last night to launch Amnesty International New Zealand’s Freedom Week.
The week celebrates the 40th anniversary of Amnesty International NZ and is a campaign on behalf of people denied freedom in Zimbabwe, Myanmar, Nepal and Afghanistan.
Guests raised their glasses at 7pm in a gesture repeated at functions nationwide.
The toast led into the show, which featured designs by secondary school students based on human rights themes.
Organiser Vivian Ong said the entries were mostly from Auckland, but there were two from South Island students.
Year 12 Carmel College student Anita Muru took first prize for a Maori-themed garment, ahead of a Celtic design by year 13 student Hannah McArdle of Marist College.
