Alright! last post on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on the eve of Blog Action Day 2013! Whew, I can’t believe I actually glossed and talked about each article in some way shape or form! Now to come up with some spectacular awesome idea for tomorrow’s actual #BAD13 post!
Yea, so I had the weekend off… 😛 I’m doing a mammoth post today, because I can. It comprises of Articles 19 through to 26 and normal transmission will resume tomorrow! Of course this is a bit sad, it means that after this one there is only 2 more posts to go! (yes, that doesn’t quite take me up to the actual Blog Action Day 2013, but I may have some special posts up my sleeve for that!
Article 17 and Article 18 don’t really flow on from each other. Article 17 is all about property rights and Article 18 is all about freedom of religion.. so I’m really gonna have to treat each one seperately!
Here I am glossing over or skipping articles again. Articles 15 and 16 were on the cards for tonight, but Article 16 is so juicy these days that I’ll just quickly repeat Article 15 and leave it at that!
Oooh Articles 13 & 14 are touchy touchy recently! Especially in these parts around here! Article 13 sets up the fact that everyone should be free to leave and return to any country (including their own) and Article 14 is about the right to seek asylum. Of course, it then went on to become an entire UN Convention and Agency all on its own (UNHCR – United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees – also the 1951 Refugee Convention and the 1967 Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees – links below)
Alright, I feel it, the home stretch!! (and insert multiple other sports related metaphors here) I’m gonna gloss over Article 11, because I feel that if you’ve seen ANY crime drama on TV or in the movies you get it. Article 11 is the whole “You are presumed innocent until you have been proven guilty” one. Â Not that tricky, basically even if the person is standing over the victim dripping with the victim’s blood holding a large knife, they still deserve the right to a fair trial.
Here we are at Day 5! I can’t believe I’ve managed to stick with it so far! I’m a third of the way through! (there are only 30 articles) So I guess I’m doing ok!
Yep! I missed a day! so here is a catch up post! Articles 5 through to 8 spans the gamut from torture through to equality in the eyes of the law.
