API Days is a global conference series focused on the business, technology, and impact of APIs. It brings together developers, architects, and business leaders to explore API design, platforms, AI, and the digital economy through talks, panels, and community‑led discussions held in cities around the world. I was asked to discuss a project that I worked on for Amnesty International Aotearoa NZ

APIs for Amnesty
I love sharing what I’ve learnt in doing all the exciting projects that I do. This is a conference talk I gave to the API Days conference on an exciting API project that I did when I was working with Amnesty International Aotearoa New Zealand.
I outline how Amnesty International New Zealand overhauled their outdated systems to automate business processes and better support human rights campaigns, which included:
- Modernizing Infrastructure: We replaced manual processes with a new API-driven system that connects our website, payment providers, and CRM, reducing data turnaround time from two weeks to just one day
- Enhancing Donor Engagement: By leveraging APIs for real-time validation and updates, we improved supporter interaction, minimized errors like bad addresses and increased the effectiveness of our fundraising efforts
