Classic Hits (97.4FM in Auckland, New Zealand) has been playing an ad proudly announcing their demographic lately. Apparently they have been voted number 1 amongst women aged 25 to 45 (or something quite similar, I’m really quite bad with numbers).
Went to a friend’s son’s 8th birthday today… not the most remarkable revelation for a Saturday morning, but what was remarkable was the fact that I remember this eight year old child as a newborn baby. *sigh* I immediately felt ancient… more so because I had come to the party with my own Mr 5 and his little brother Mr Almost-2, as well as Mr 5’s little 5 year old friend…
I watched a video this morning on Fox17 today (I know, that was my first mistake… but you gotta give the other side a chance to speak as well… right?) See the link below if you want to. Basically, the video is about how it’s become “cool” to mock religion within the United States (and the tone of the video suggests that perhaps it is more widespread, and it has become “cool” to mock religion worldwide) Mr Mendte then says
“…faith in something greater than ourselves is an important underpinning of a civilised society…”
This really incensed me.
I read one of those typically funny posts on the internet today… you know, one of those funny lists of a whole bunch of strangers saying really stupid things (the link is below to the particular one I read, if you are interested, do it, it is quite entertaining) and I thought to myself, well, I guess it’s not that bad, it’s not like I actually know those people…
I read a great article today by Bruce Kasanoff (link below) and it really got me thinking about that whole work/life balance that everyone keeps talking about and what being a mom really means to my career aspirations. The article explains his “Theory of Seven”, basically, if you treat your colleagues and subordinates as if they were seven year olds, you’d be a motivational superstar!
